The Swift Block swift box is designed to create nesting space for our declining Swift population. A simple, stylish solution which can be easily integrated into new builds or retrofitted on existing properties.

Swift populations have decreased by over 50% in the last 20 years and a large factor in this is loss of habitat. If every new build contained provision for these beautiful birds then we might start to reverse the decline. Swifts join us for a few months each Summer, spending their winters on the wing in Africa. Generally, they mate for life and often will return to the same nesting site.

The beautiful Swift Block swift box features an internal nesting bowl, a small entrance hole to deter larger birds and predators, full instructions cast into the surface for easy fitting, a stylish entrance feature and is UK standard block size.

Swifts will use any material they can gather whilst on the wing to build their nest, including feathers, seeds, paper and straw. They normally lay 2 or 3 eggs at 2-3 day intervals, with the young hatching a few days apart. Feeding on a diet of insects, young Swifts will start to move around the nest at around 2-3 weeks old, starting to do press-ups to strengthen their wings! They will spend a lot of time looking out from the nest, preparing to leave, and it's little wonder as once they do leave they remain on the wing for the next 3 years, eating, sleeping and mating in the sky!
